The Story of the Mandala
Drawn in June 2025. In the season of hydrangeas I dug red beets — full of the energy of the soil — from the field and ate them, and felt the energy of the earth enter my body.
In today’s world of too much information, we only go round and round in our heads; nothing ever settles in the gut. I came to feel that to connect with what lies within, or to receive messages from the heavens, we need to connect with the ground — to be firmly rooted in the earth.

Artist’s Notes
Every year at this season I go to see the hydrangeas. This year, too, they were in bloom. I lost last year’s photos along with all my data — but whatever I lost came back to me in full.
Today I bought beets from Ms Y, who grows vegetables and rice with great care, starting from the soil itself. I went to the field and pulled up the beets myself. They were giving off the energy of the earth. I made the beets into soup and stir-fried the leaves. My body was happy.
What I need now is grounding…
