I believe the reverence for nature is a spirit written into the DNA of the Japanese. Animism — the idea that a god dwells in everything in this world.

People long ago feared great nature, and at the same time felt they received its blessings and were kept alive by it, and revered it. So they joined their hands before it and offered their gratitude… I am proud of that spirit, and I want to treasure it always.
